Boldini’s Ladies
May ’22

This piece of furniture used to belong to my parents who purchased it in Italy in the early eighties. I felt it needed a new life and Giovanni Boldini (Ferrara 1842 – Paris 1931) came to my rescue for inspiration. During his many years in Paris, he became the most fashionable portrait painter in the late 19th century: for a Lady to have her portrait painted by Boldini was the crowning event of the social season. Three tones of Annie Sloan Chalk Paint® (Graphite, Rodmell and Emile) meshed with General Finishes Clear Glaze to create an oneiric atmosphere and invite Boldini’s Ladies to come through the decoupages. Paloma and Gold mini stencils for an additional touch of light and General Finishes Carbon Gray Gel Stain for the top protected with Flat Out Flat..
